Interns celebrate success with senior managers from Royal Caribbean International.

Royal Caribbean International visited the University earlier this year to conduct interviews and select students from its Business School to join its team during the summer. The partnership has been running for four years and won a prestigious Employer Engagement Award at the Educate North ceremony in 2018.

Six students, four studying International Tourism Management, one studying Accounting and Finance and one studying Events Management, were selected for this exceptional experience through this award winning collaboration.

The students were hired into six different strategic head office departments - public relations, social media, digital, marketing, web design, trade marketing and sales support.

Niamh Davies, one of the successful applicants who is studying Events, said: "I was over the moon when I found out I got the placement at Royal Caribbean and couldn’t wait to start working there."

Jessica Turvey, who is studying International Tourism added: "The placement is such an amazing opportunity for us and we are all very lucky to have been selected."

Katie Talbot, an International Tourism Management student, who gained a role within the Public Relations team, said: “When I found out I got the placement I was ecstatic. It’s something I had dreamed about since hearing about the opportunity that previous University of Chester students have had with Royal Caribbean. I am excited as I will gain invaluable experience on this placement which will really make me stand out when applying for jobs in the future.”

Nicol Kowalska, an Accounting and Finance student, added: “The placement seemed like a phenomenal opportunity and I knew it would be a competitive recruitment process. The team from Royal Caribbean International couldn’t have been friendlier or more welcoming. I’m so excited to have been selected for the internship programme and look forward to working with the team to develop my skills in a real work place environment.”

Ben Bouldin, Associate Vice President and Managing Director, Royal Caribbean International UK and Ireland, said: “It’s been fantastic to once again welcome six interns from the University of Chester to our team, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable skills and work experience, while also bringing new ideas and fresh thinking into our business too. This is the fourth year we’ve run the programme and every year it’s a pleasure to help nurture and develop the potential of these incredibly talented students.”

Dr Maeve Marmion, Head of Department for the Experience Economy at Chester Business School, said: “This is the fourth year of our bespoke collaboration with Royal Caribbean and these internships offer a genuine opportunity for students to learn from leaders at the forefront of the global travel industry. The interns will be set real business challenges and have the chance to showcase their creativity, whilst gaining confidence and building their early career network. We are grateful to the team at Royal Caribbean for the dedication and support they show to our students each year. We couldn’t ask for a better partnership.”
