Hi everyone, it’s Hayley here! As you may already know, this Friday is Graduation day for many of our postgraduate (and some undergraduate!) students. Congratulations if that’s you!
Our March ceremonies are always a fantastic celebration and a great opportunity for us to connect with our brand new alumni. We will be in the Northgate Arena on Thursday and Friday, as well as at the Cathedral on Friday, so stop by for a chat – we would love to hear from you! You can register as alumni here [LINK].
If you have friends and family visiting Chester this week, there are plenty of things to do and see in the city. Graduation is a great excuse to indulge in good food and entertainment. Here are our top picks of what to do and see in the city while you’re here for graduation…
Visit Chester Cathedral – Luckily our graduands and their guests will experience the Graduation ceremonies right in the heart of Chester’s most iconic building. The grand exterior and exquisite interior of the Cathedral really do set apart our Graduation ceremonies from the rest! Don’t forget to tag us in your photos on social media on the day, we would love to see them.
Chester City Walls – Another iconic part of Chester are the walls, a defensive structure built by the Romans to protect the city. They are the perfect way to give your friends and family a guided tour round the city, set aside an hour and explore!
Eating out – Have you decided where you will go for your Graduation meal? Chester has plenty of places to choose from. You could splash out on a steak at Upstairs at the Grill or Hickory’s Smokehouse, or maybe treat yourself to a celebratory pizza at La Fattoria. Maybe brunch is more your thing? Try Hanky Panky Pancakes or Mad Hatters to satisfy those sweet (and savoury!) cravings. If you’re looking for a lunch time fix, try Marmalade – they have a great selection of gluten-free treats too. The Botanist also offer a free bottle of Prosecco to graduates, click here [http://thebotanist.uk.com/chester-graduation] for more information and to book.
Shopping – Chester city centre is home to a wide variety of shops and with Cheshire Oaks only a short drive away, you will be spoilt for choice! In the city centre, be sure to venture along the rows and visit some of the quirky local shops.
Storyhouse – Chester’s brand new cultural hub has a bit of everything – a theatre, cinema, books, food and drink! The perfect place to relax and unwind after a busy weekend of graduating(!), sight-seeing and shopping.
Chester Zoo – If you have time, the zoo is well worth a visit, particularly if you have younger members of your family visiting Chester with you. It is one the UK’s largest zoos, so make sure you set aside plenty of time to be able to enjoy it.
Museums – Chester is rich in its history and heritage, you could easily spend a whole week immersing yourself in its Roman roots. If you only have the weekend however, why not book onto a Roman Tour, led by your very own Roman Centurion, or hop on board the Chester Heritage Tours bus. You could also visit the Military Museum or the Grosvenor Museum for a quick history fix.
Grosvenor Park – If you fancy some fresh air, why not wander over to the park? A tranquil setting amongst the hustle and bustle of the city. Don’t forget to feed the squirrels! From here, you can also visit the Roman Gardens or take a short walk down to the river and suspension bridge.
If you’re returning to Chester this week, we hope you have a fantastic time and enjoy everything that the city has to offer!
