From pitching your business idea on the Venture Programme to competing for a £1,000 cash prize at the Santander Enterprise Challenge, Chester Business School's practical approach to business will enable you to launch your business. My modules on enterprise helped me to understand what I needed to do and the skills I needed to develop. With a variety of modules including, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Finance and Events Management, Chester Business School helps you with the knowledge needed to specialise in any department within a business.
Can you tell us about your year in industry?
For my year in industry, I decided to take up an opportunity that arose as a result of competing in the Santander Enterprise Competition. I was offered the role of NHS Sales and Marketing Assistant within the NHS department at Crest Medical – a supplier of medical products to industry. As I progressed through the year, I was given more and more responsibility which has facilitated the development of different skill sets including multitasking, communication and using my initiative in decision making. I know that my year in industry will aid me with the attributes needed to secure a graduate role.
Would you recommend studying at the Chester Business School?
All of the lecturers at the Business School practice an open-door policy and are always willing to help, whether you need support with an assignment, exam prep or any general enquiries. The opportunities that you are exposed to at Chester Business School enable you to follow the professional path that you want to take. For me, it will be building a business, but for you it could be becoming a Marketing Director an Accountant or Events Manager - all aspirations that Chester Business School help you to realise.
What is it like living in Chester?
Chester is a beautiful and very safe place to live. A lot of the student accommodation is very central which means it takes around 10 minutes to walk into the city centre, where you’ll find all the shops you need! With a variety of different bars to choose from, there is somewhere to go for every occasion. I lived near to the Storyhouse which has a fantastic theatre, restaurant and cinema. Chester is a really busy place with students and tourists, I love it.
What do you hope to do after you graduate?
When I have completed my last year at Chester Business School, I hope to focus on building a business; one founded at the Business School as a result of competing in the Enterprise Challenge and Young Enterprise pitching competition. I will always be grateful to the staff at the Business School for giving me the knowledge and opportunity to even think about doing this. As this will be a slow process, I also plan to pursue a graduate role in another medical / pharmaceutical company (3M).
