Whether you are going to university to change careers or to enhance your current skills for the job you love, Chester can allow you to have the life you want whilst studying. A wide range of accommodation, societies, and social entertainment makes it easy to create the experience you want.

Life at university

There are so many options for mature students who want to live in accommodation to suit what you are looking for, from shared houses to private studios. During my experience in student accommodation, I met a wide range of students studying different courses. Being in student accommodation was the quickest way to meet new people and get a feel for student life.

I decided to look at either private studio accommodation or commuting for my second year. This change gave me more freedom to live the way I wanted with the freedom of driving. Of course, everyone has different ideas when it comes to university and the lifestyle they want. My experience has allowed me to see many different sides to the university experience.

Connect with like-minded people

Being a mature student, it is easy to assume there will be lots of people who are fresh out of college. I was surprised and delighted to love my course and meet students with a similar career background and of similar ages. It was easy to meet more mature students, especially since I am studying a popular course with different students in each module. This variety has allowed me to find like-minded people of all ages. The best advice that I can give is to talk to as many people as possible, get to know who is in your class, and that way you’ll find the right people for you in no time.

Find more people like yourself

No matter your circumstances, whether you are in a small cohort or commuting to University, there are many ways to meet people that you have things in common with. The University has a wide range of societies to help you find like-minded people. Not only this but there is also a society dedicated to mature students! No matter what you enjoy, societies are a great way to find people who are passionate about the same things you are. I loved being part of the Outside the Box Business Society and joining in virtually when away from the University. It helped me feel like I was a part of the University even during the pandemic. I was able to connect to others of all ages who were wanting to build a business and they all inspired me with their stories.

Blended learning

One of the things I appreciate most about being a mature student at the University is the flexibility of learning in my course. Having a mixture of face to face sessions, pre-recorded lectures you can view anytime, and online live sessions has allowed me to work and be involved in more around the University. It has truly been the best of both worlds because I have been able to manage my own time to get the most out of my week and still continue doing everything I enjoy.
