Why did you chose to study Master of Business Administration (MBA) with us?

I am studying The Chester MBA alongside full-time work, to help me with future progression within my career, and to increase my own skills and knowledge. The course has taught me a lot across all sorts of areas, with modules in areas such as finance, ethics and leadership. Right now I’m writing a thesis on talent acquisition, taking elements of each module studied and applying them into a specific lesser-studied area. Because I studied my undergraduate degree at Chester I had the Graduate Loyalty discount, and it definitely helped with looking at options.

How well are you supported as a postgraduate student?

All the staff are so accessible! I don’t often talk to my Personal Academic Tutor, purely because I don’t need to with the level of support I get elsewhere. I’ve also had Disability support, which has helped with logistical elements of the course.

How do you organise your postgraduate study alongside friends and family, and other commitments?

It’s been tough and taken a lot of work and family support to free up the time to allow me to study on top. But everyone’s seen the benefits of the course for me and given me time to undertake the studies, especially seeing how I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learnt in my working life. I’ve had access to all the opportunities the University offers, such as the Venture programme and Chester Difference Awards- although I haven’t had time to fully explore these. I’ve also been part of the Cricket Club for the Uni, and coached American Football this year as well as being a student ambassador for University Open Days.

How is your time at Chester helping you to reach your career goals?

With the added knowledge from the MBA, I’m on track to be promoted to a Senior TA within my current organisation with a longer-term view to lead my own team and develop a multi-national team to lead within my global business. I’m currently 4 years into a Talent Acquisition Career, and the only other thing I’d ever think of now would be research into pushing Talent Acquisition further on! The knowledge of different business areas has helped me understand where my role affects the business far more, and helps me deal with divisions across the business knowing how they operate.
