Dr Chandrika Devarakonda, Associate Professor in the University’s Faculty of Education and Children’s Services, presented the talk ‘What is in the box of diversity and inclusion: puzzles and the connections' to the World Federation of Associations of Teacher Education (WFATE) Sixth Biennial Conference.
The WFATE aims to establish a worldwide community for teacher education and provide equitable opportunities by promoting quality teacher education throughout the world.
Dr Devarakonda also spoke in a webinar entitled ‘Including international voices – lessons from the pandemic’ organised by the Empowerment Project founded by former student of the University, Alana Lukens. The session, was titled 'Culture - a puzzle to solve or an opportunity to unpack'.
Dr Devarakonda has published extensively on the subject of diversity and inclusion and is the author of Promoting inclusion and Diversity in Early Years Settings A Professional Guide to Ethnicity, Religion, Culture and Language (Jessica Kingsley Publishers).
She said: “Taking part in the conference was a good opportunity to meet academics and delegates from all over the world with similar interests and I hope it will lead to productive collaborations in the future.
“I was very pleased to be invited to speak to The Empowerment Group. It was really encouraging to see both current and former students engaged in the diversity and inclusion issue.”
