Tell us a bit about your degree…

Studying a combined course at the University’s Warrington Campus, both departments have brought new challenges and increased my knowledge to allow me to add value and expertise to further work opportunities. Advertising is a strong favourite for me as it has given me so many opportunities to be creative and physically see the development in my design skills as the course has progressed. Now in my second year, the transition from first year has brought new challenges for me and a step-up in the pace and nature of the work, however, consistent communication from our lectures has decreased the pressure and made me feel supported.

Have you taken part in any other activities outside of your studies?

As a mature, commuting student, I have other commitments that prevent me from joining the sporting teams or societies, however the close-knit community at Warrington means I can keep up to date with the scores and fixtures. I have taken part in activities, such as the Chester Difference Award, the Venture programme and the ECDL course, all of which have helped develop my skills which I hope to apply in future work roles.

Tell us the most important thing you will take away from your second year of study?

The most important thing I will take away from my university experience is the friendships I have developed; we are all currently studying from home but keeping in daily contact as we finish our final assignments for this year!

As a commuting student, what are your top-tips for making friends and keeping involved in student life?

My top-tip for making friends as a commuter is to just be yourself! Join in with as many of the Welcome Week (Freshers’) activities as you can. During that first week every single student is in the same boat, it doesn’t matter if you live on campus or travel in - just have fun.

How would you summarise your Chester story so far?

My Chester Story has been a rollercoaster of emotions. I have loved the Warrington Campus community and every minute of my time here!
