If you are going through Clearing this summer, do not worry! This time two years ago, I was in a similar position to you. During the summer after college, I completely changed my mind about what and where I wanted to study. I have always loved travelling and when I found out about the International Tourism Management course through the University website, I knew it was the course for me. Since I made my decision so late, I had to apply through Clearing. If you are thinking of applying to the University of Chester through Clearing, I’m here to tell you why it was the best decision that I have ever made.

The course is very interesting and structured well. The first year introduces you to the tourism industry. I was worried I would be behind since I had never studied tourism before, but the staff do an amazing job of explaining things. You also have modules in other areas such as events and marketing, which gives you transferrable skills and helps you decide which modules to choose in second and third year. The course helps you think critically about the past, present and future of tourism and how it can be made more sustainable in the future.

One thing I love about the University of Chester is that there are always opportunities to gain real life experiences that will make your CV shine after graduation, such as placement opportunities during summer term of second year and the opportunity to do a placement year. After first year I spent the summer working in the USA through a company that the University work with. I worked in a shop on Santa Catalina Island, California just off the coast of Los Angeles where many tourists visit during the summer months. I had the best experience that has enhanced my CV and has already helped me when applying for jobs and placements.

The best thing about the University of Chester is the amount of support available to all students, whether it’s help with study skills, your CV or looking for jobs, it’s always readily available. The lecturers and tutors are always there to help, so you never have to fall behind, and the lecturers make an effort to get to know all their students.

Chester itself is a beautiful, historic city that’s perfect for living away from home for the first time. It’s welcoming and friendly, with shops, restaurants and an amazing zoo to explore and a fabulous nightlife. The University has many campuses around the city so you’re never far from the city centre. I am enjoying living in Chester and I’m sure that you will too.

If you are going through Clearing this summer – good luck! The University of Chester’s Clearing process was very easy and stress free. Clearing turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me as it led me to the right place, and I’m sure it will take you where you are meant to be.
