Students from the Department of Music, Media and Performance are presenting Earthquakes in London by Mike Bartlett on Tuesday, February 15 and Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

Curtains go up on each performance, taking place by arrangement with Nick Hern Books, at 7.30pm, at the Creative Campus Kingsway, Chester.

Earthquakes in London is described as driven by an all-pervasive fear of the future and a guilty pleasure in the excesses of the present. It is a fast and furious metropolitan crash of people, scenes and decades, as three sisters attempt to navigate their dislocated lives and loves, while their dysfunctional father, a brilliant scientist, predicts global catastrophe.

Dr Pamela Barnes, Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for BA Acting and BA Drama (and Theatre Studies) said: “We are delighted to present this exciting and unique play which has wowed audiences since it premiered in 2010.

“The students are putting the finishing touches to the set design and rehearsals are going fantastically well - they have really put their all into creating a captivating theatre experience.”

She added that the production had been created and developed with sustainability at its core.

“In an effort to reduce our energy and carbon footprint, set and lighting design, costume, set construction and disposal, materials and the production process itself has been mindfully crafted to reduce environmental impacts.”

The play has received rave reviews since first hitting the stage, including The Daily Telegraph outlining its impact as “the theatrical equivalent of a thrilling roller coaster ride... provides a great shot of adrenalin-fuelled excitement... a rush of invention, humour and raw emotion” and the Evening Standard commenting that “Mike Bartlett has created something completely different: a three hour play of startling ambition”.

Tickets are £8 (full price) or £5 (concessions/students).
