If you’re starting to look at universities for the first time you probably have a huge list of questions in mind. There might be a lot of things you’re unsure about at this stage, but the good news is that our upcoming Open Days provide you with the perfect chance to find out more about all sorts of areas of university life. Here are some of the things you can learn about during the Welcome Talk at our upcoming Open Days.
Opportunities
Here at the University of Chester we’re all about opportunities. If you choose to study with us, there are a wealth of things you can get involved with that will not only benefit you but can also help you to make a real difference. From built-in work placements and free language courses to societies and volunteering programmes, at Chester you can really make your mark.
Academic support
Making the move to university can feel like a big step, but the good news is that here at Chester we’re committed to providing you with the academic support you need so you can take that step with confidence. You’ll be supported by research-active and industry expert staff, and with your own Personal Academic Tutor on hand, you know help is always available.
Representing the student voice
Your student experience is important to us and we’re always striving to be better. However, we wouldn’t be able to improve without the help of our fantastic student community. That’s why when our students speak, we listen and at Chester you can use your voice to have a real impact on your time with us.
Diverse and inclusive community
We’re also proud of the fact that at Chester we have a diverse student community, offering a variety of voices. We want to create a university experience that is inclusive for all and it’s something we take very seriously by working alongside LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities and our Student Race and Interfaith Advocates to name a few.
Sustainability
Another important area for us is sustainability and we’re working hard to be carbon net zero. We’ve already started work and have a lot more planned, such as not sending any waste to landfills and using renewable energy tariffs, on our road to being more sustainable.
Digital
The world has changed an awful lot over the past few years, but we’ve been changing alongside it with an innovative approach to digital learning. Our use of technology for teaching is tailored to each subject area to really add another dimension to your learning. Our approach hasn’t gone unnoticed, as we won the WhatUni Student Choice 2021 Award for Digital Innovation.
Student support
We want to make sure you’re happy and healthy throughout your time with us and we have a range of student support on hand for our students when they need it. From dedicated teams such as our Wellbeing and Mental Health and Residential Life Teams to resources such as Digital Wellbeing Sessions and Kitchen Chats, you can rest assured knowing our students’ wellbeing is our top priority.
Accommodation
Heading to university may be your first time living alone, and whether you’re excited or a little nervous there are a range of choices when it comes to living away from home. At our Open Days there’s not only the chance to visit our accommodation first hand, but also learn about the application process and ask any questions you may have.
Finance
The world of student finance may seem a little confusing, or even daunting at times but don’t worry, once again our Open Days are the perfect chance to learn all about the ins and outs of the application process. We also have a range of scholarships and bursaries available, so it’s worth finding out more about what additional financial support may be available for you.
Induction activities
You may also be curious about what happens when you actually get to university. In our Welcome Talk we also cover everything you need to know about Welcome Week and induction activities – from meeting your lecturers for the first time to getting to know your fellow students through a range of social activities.
