Can you believe Christmas is just around the corner? I don’t know about you, but Christmas is my favourite time of the year! Hot chocolates around the fire, streets decorated with Christmas lights and most of all spending quality time with friends and family.

Now, we all know that as students, finding the time to do all these lovely, Christmassy things can be a challenge, as well as expensive, but what if I told you that Chester has something extra special this festive period, not only for students but for the whole family?

Any ideas? No? Let me tell you… it’s fun, it’s festive, it’s Santa-approved…it’s Chester Christmas Market!

This year it’s the Chester Christmas Market’s 10th anniversary, so you can expect something a little extra special! Over 70 wooden chalets containing all your favourite, festive stalls will take over the streets of Chester, surrounding the merriest spectacle of all… Chester’s dazzling Christmas tree.

It’s free to enter and runs until the 21st of December, so there's no excuse for not having enough time!

Now, let’s talk about the most exciting bit of all, what stalls does the Chester Christmas Market actually have?

Prosecco and Gin Bar

Gin-gle all the way this Christmas at the Prosecco and Gin Bar! Looking for something a little extra festive and unique? Then make sure you visit the Prosecco and Gin Bar at the Chester Christmas Market. In my opinion, this is the best place to kick-start the Christmas period. Inside there is a small log fire to keep you warm, as well as the very best Christmas classics, which are almost impossible not to sing along to! If you thought that it couldn’t get any more jolly than that, then wait until you hear some of the festive items on the menu, with over 30 different gins and rums, as well as prosecco! Enjoy a glass of hot mulled wine, a Strawberry Dancer (Prosecco with Strawberry Gin), or my personal favourite, Plum and Vanilla Gin, better known as the Vixen Plum. Truly scrumptious! Better yet, the Prosecco and Gin Bar hosts live entertainment on Thursdays and Fridays. What more could you want?

Food Stalls

Feeling peckish? Then visit the many food stalls that the Chester Christmas Market has to offer! Ranging from Indian food to Italian pastries, to the best selection of fudge you can imagine, you really are spoilt for choice. Who ever heard of gingerbread latte fudge or Biscoff fudge? Me neither, but it was definitely worth the price! If you have time, I would definitely recommend shopping around each individual food stall. Each of them offers something completely different to the next, which makes it an even more interesting visit. A favourite of many is the chocolate-covered marshmallows, which are very moreish. I tried the dark chocolate and raspberry and the chocolate orange-covered marshmallow. It’s safe to say I will be a returning customer! The last tip, don’t forget to check out the pie stalls and the brownie and muffin stalls. Believe me when I say they are the nicest selection of brownies and muffins you can imagine!

Gift Stalls

Now, of course, you want to kill two birds with one stone and have a great time sampling all the food and drinks, whilst being organised and getting your Christmas shopping done early. Am I right? Of course, I am! No one wants to be that person running around on Christmas Eve doing their last-minute shopping! Have a wander around the various gift stores at the Chester Christmas Market and see what takes your fancy. Personalise a Christmas decoration for that someone special, or give the gift of beauty by gifting them one of the handmade soaps and body washes from the Chester Christmas Market. Check out the jewellery stalls that sell unique handcrafted jewellery or if you are feeling chilly then shop at the cute hat and scarf stalls. Who doesn’t love a practical present? There really is so much on offer at the Chester Christmas Market!

If I haven’t convinced you already to visit the Chester Christmas Market, then I don’t know what will! It really is something fun to do that doesn’t blow the budget. If you haven’t been already, then what are you waiting for?
