Warrington Wolves cake

The University Caterers Organisation (TUCO) held its annual TUCO competitions at the University of Warwick. During the two-day event, more than 100 competitors from the higher and further education sectors competed against each other in a series of food and drink challenges.

Nine staff members from the University of Chester took part, winning one gold and four silver medals, plus a highly commended award.

Second Head Chef, Jackie Rowlands received gold (best in class) and silver medals in the Salon Culinaire competitions. Her gold award was for a unicorn cake, and her silver was for a cake celebrating the Warrington Wolves rugby league team.

The Artisan Baker, Dave Quinn, received two silver medals: one for afternoon tea, and the other for a coffee shop style cake.

Chris Murphy and Bradley Newsome, who are both Head Chefs, received a highly commended award for the best menu.

Warrington Campus Bar Manager, Tom Maxwell, received a silver award for the bar skills competition, for creating three cocktails. One of them had to be produced in 90 seconds!

Ian White, Domestic Bursar and Executive Director of Hospitality and Residential Services at the University of Chester, said: “We always do well at the national TUCO competitions and I am extremely proud of all of the team from the University who entered. Coming away with six accolades proves, yet again, the expertise and creativity we have here at Chester.”
