The 2020 Chester Chinese New Year Gala will take place at Storyhouse on Monday, January 27, promising an unforgettable evening honouring some of China’s finest art forms. 

The celebratory event has been organised by the China Centre, which part of the university’s Business Research Centre, along with the institution’s Chinese Students and Scholars Association.

As well as performances by students from the University’s Department of Music, Media and Performance, this incredible show will include a drama production by pupils from The Queen’s School.

It will also showcase the remarkable martial arts talents of by Mr Yan, Vice-Professor of the Sports Institute of Dezhou Institute of Shandong Province.

Professor Phil Harris, Executive Director of the university’s Business Research Institute, said: “The Chinese New Year Gala has been built and developed by the University of Chester to illustrate the great diversity and flair of its Chinese community and associated students.

“Each year our Chinese students, staff and visitors put on a fantastic event to entertain and inspire our city’s community for the forthcoming year. This year’s event is the biggest to date and will hopefully prepare us all for what should be a wonderful Year of the Rat.”

He added: “This exceptional event has been created to reach out across our wonderful city to show the incredible talents that we have, not only in our university and community but globally, all gathered here in Chester to celebrate Chinese New Year.”
