Welcome Week is always an exciting time of year and despite the challenges of COVID-19, this year was no different! Our Induction Team, Athletics Union and the Students’ Union worked together to deliver over 100 events running across the University, all designed to help new students make friends, have fun, learn more about their course and explore the city –in a safe, socially-distanced way. There was something for everyone and it was great to see our students starting their #MyChesterStory!

Take a look at what our students got up to…

Move-In Sunday

Our friendly student volunteers wearing Red T’s did a fantastic job of helping new students move into University accommodation and find their way around campus.

Live Q&A

Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eunice Simmons, led a live online Q&A with students so they could get their questions answered.

The Week Got Off to a Scarily Good Start

Students explored the city of Chester on a Ghost Tour, where they heard spine-chilling tales of ghosts, ghouls, and things that go bump in the night!

We hosted an Instagram treasure hunt, TikTok dance challenge, pub quiz night, a retro gaming night, giant garden games, a darts championship, and our Outdoor Cinema premier of Grease was a sell out!

We Went Digital

We held our first ever virtual Freshers’ Fair and a virtual Escape Room where students had to work together to expose a deadly corporate plan.

Societies

From Harry Potter to American Football, students were given the opportunity to find out more about our sports and societies, including our new set of Chester Rules sports. These are customised games that can be played whilst maintaining social distancing, so you can get involved without having to worry about close contact.

Support on Offer

Welcome Week is also a great time for students to find out about the range of support we offer. We had assigned times for students to meet their Personal Academic Tutors (PATs), listen to talks on Disability and Inclusion and learn about our Peer Mentoring Scheme.

Splashing Around

Students spent time exploring the city, including one of our favourite spots in Chester, the River Dee. The pedalos looked so much fun!

This is only the beginning of the academic year and we can’t wait to see what our students get up to next.
