A Student-Friendly City
Research commissioned by the Sun newspaper has found Chester to be the second most student-friendly town or city in the country, judged on a range of factors including affordability, graduate prospects, social scene, nightlife options and the level of crime in the area.
This is all well-known among our students. Take a look at our student bloggers Rebecca and Rachel’s and accounts of why they chose Chester and how its friendly atmosphere helped them settle in straight away, plus our students’ gallery of top reasons to love Chester.
You can also follow #mychesterstory for the real story of Chester and why our students love it here, as told by students and graduates.
A Sustainable City
Chester is also the best area in the UK for sustainability and energy efficiency, according to a national index, and in March became the world’s first Sustainable Palm Oil City, with participation from the University, as local organisations remove non-sustainable palm oil from their supply chains.
Here at the University, students can get involved in a range of Green Chester projects and initiatives, from the People and Planet society, boosting biodiversity on campus and VeggieFest!
Sustainable Student Start-Up
In a more far-reaching sustainability initiative, a Fairtrade business set up by second year Global Entrepreneurship and Business Management student Jessica Kelly has won a place in the national finals for the Young Enterprise Student Start-up, proving that a successful business can be sustainable as well as profitable.
