One month is now on the clock to enter as the deadline for the 2021 Cheshire Prize for Literature run by the University of Chester and Storyhouse cultural centre has been extended until Wednesday March 9.

The annual competition offers a cash prize and the rare opportunity for the best entries to be published professionally by the University of Chester Press in an Anthology edited by senior members of academic staff.

The theme for 2021 is sustainability and submissions are invited in the genres of short stories, children's literature, scriptwriting and poetry. A children's competition has also been introduced for the first time ever, to run alongside the adult competition.

Simon Poole, Anthology Co-Editor; Judge; Associate Professor of Cultural Education; Programme Leader for the University’s Master’s in Creative Practice in Education and Senior Leader in Cultural Education and Research at Storyhouse said: “With tackling climate change at the top of the world’s agenda, this year’s Cheshire Prize competition focuses on the theme of sustainability, and pieces can explore any aspect of living in a ‘greener’ way.

“Thank you to everyone who has already entered - and if you haven’t yet, please don’t miss your chance in the next four weeks to share your talents and creative green solutions.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone’s responses to today’s - and tomorrow’s - environmental issues through fiction.”

The Cheshire Prize for Literature was founded in 2003 and is open to people with a connection to the historic Cheshire boundary (including the Wirral and Halton).

One winner and a prize will be awarded in each category, as well as the opportunity for winners, runners-up and shortlisted entrants to be selected to appear in the Anthology.
