Our Future Festival is a series of events that will aim to improve understanding and inspire action on climate change. The festival will run from Monday 13th to Friday 24th March 2023, across all sites.

Skills for the Future: How sustainability fits in with employability skills.
In this session, we discuss key employability skills and how having an understanding of sustainability can help prepare you for global challenges and opportunities that face society. Click here to register.

Energy Q&A
Over the past 12 months we have seen a steep increase in our energy bills. In this Q&A, we discuss how to understand your energy bills and the practical ways to reduce usage. Click here to register

Tuesday 14th March

Inclusive Communities: Why it’s critical that the environmental movement represents all
The Paris Agreement was signed by 194 Parties in 2015 and is a legally binding treaty, that aims limit average global temperature to well below 2 degrees, and pursue efforts to limit temperature increase to below 1.5 degrees. The 1.5 degree target was added to reflect the most vulnerable nations. It is estimated that between 50 - 200 million people could be displaced due to climate change, by 2050. Many voices can go unheard in the environmental movement, and it is often those at most risk of environmental displacement. Click here to register.

Upcycling workshop: Make your own scrunchies and wash bags (drop in event)
Join the Sustainability Team in making your own scrunchies and/or wash bags using a variety or fabric offcuts. All materials and equipment will be provided, and the team will be on hand to help.

Community Clean-Up
Bring your friends along and spend some time litter-picking in the local area. Meet the Sustainability Team outside Binks to pick up your litter picker and bag. Enjoy a free tea or coffee after the litter pick!

Sustainability Roadshow
Meet the Sustainability Team and find out more about sustainability at the University of Chester. At the roadshow there will be a number of activities such as Letter’s to the Earth and a chance to win a £30 M&S voucher!

Finding your Voice: How to build confidence and engage in social justice issues

Bio&Me: On the journey becoming B Corp Certified
Bio&Me is a gut health food brand, launched in 2019. They sell a range of products aimed to improve gut health. In 2022, the company began their journey to become B Corp certified. In this talk, we hear more about why they started this process and challenges faced. Click here to register.

SDG Teach In is an annual campaign, organised by SOS-UK, to put the UN Sustainable Development Goals at the heart of all stages across education, and across all disciplines. In this session we introduce the Sustainable Development Goals and how they are embedded in all aspects of life.

Carbon Literacy Training
Carbon Literacy Training is a days’ worth of training that looks at the science behind climate change, the urgency of taking action and the practical ways we can make a difference in our personal and work life. The training is interactive and delivered through a series of presentations, group activities and quizzes so active participation is required. Click here to register.
