Reaseheath's rich conservation habitats, facilities and resources make UCR an ideal choice for those who want to make a difference to the environment, to food, land and water security, to our wildlife and to our health and wellbeing.
By studying at UCR, a leading specialist land-based institution in Nantwich, home to the University of Chester’s Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, you’ll become a highly skilled professional ready to help the planet overcome some of its greatest challenges.
Facilities
Reaseheath’s National Centre for Horticulture, the Environment and Sustainable Technology is one of the most advanced facilities of its kind. It includes glasshouses for commercial food crop trials and research, a science laboratory and CAD design studios. The Centre also houses an innovative vertical farm facility (new for 2021), which is the largest installation in any UK educational establishment.
As a regional centre for agricultural education, Reaseheath's on-site farm is home to the high-yielding Holstein herd and commercial sheep flock. A new robotic milking system has recently been installed; this automates aspects of dairy herd management and provides data and information to inform farm management practices.
With BRC Grade AA certification, Reaseheath’s Food Centre is internationally renowned as a leading educational institution within the food and drink sector, and has one of the best processing halls in Europe.
The Animal Centre’s licensed zoo is accredited by the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA). It is home to over 250 different animal species, including exotic mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, companion and park animals, and birds of prey. On-site kennelling facilities and dog training areas with competition-quality dog agility equipment enhance UCR’s canine degree programmes.
Excellent sport facilities include a £6 million Sports Science and Performance Academy with a four-court sports hall, sports science lab and altitude chamber, 3G pitch and Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). There is also a gym, high and low ropes courses and an indoor climbing wall.
With indoor and outdoor riding arenas, research laboratory facilities, gait analysis systems and a mechanical horse, Reaseheath’s Equestrian Centre caters for those interested in equine science, equine sports performance and applied equine behaviour.
