Excel in English Webinars

Our Excel in English webinar series took place in November and December 2021. Themed around 'Univeristy!', each event comprised a fascinating talk, followed by questions and was designed for anyone studying, thinking of studying, or supporting the study of A-Level English.

  • Excel in English Literature: ‘I have understanding as well as you’: the Elite University and Social Injustice in Hardy’s Jude the Obscure (1895) presented by Dr Alex Tankard
  • Excel in English and Creative Writing: Netflix’s The Chair: Creating Drama at a University English Department presented by Dr Graham Atkin
  • Excel in English Language: You ‘orrible little snowflakes!’: Negative Labels and Stereotyping in the News Media presented by Dr Matt Davies
  • Excel in English Christmas Special!: ‘That’s what Christmas means to me’: Looking at Christmas in English Literature, English Language and Creative Writing. In this session, members of staff from the Department of English talked about how their specialisms shed light on the traditions of Christmas, as well as some insightful reflections to share with your family and friends over the Christmas period.
