This targeted outreach project is aimed at Year 10 students and will last for two years, running throughout Year 11 too. It is designed to offer students an understanding of their future and how to get there by making the link between aspiration and attainment.

  • The first year focuses on aspiration and knowledge building in areas relating to university and future careers. This is done through a series of online activities, including some with role models, with reflection points and varied evaluation methods to ensure students are getting the most from them.
  • The second year shifts the focus towards preparing for GCSEs through revision workshops and study skills sessions, alongside some mentoring from current university students, and university staff.

The Pathfinder Project is designed for learners from low participation demographics and we ask schools who wish to participate to identify a cohort of around 10 students who would benefit most from this type of activity.

All participating students should meet at least one of the following characteristics:

  • Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic background
  • In receipt of Pupil Premium
  • In or with experience of Local Authority Care
  • As they have been identified as a key focus area for HE progression, students that identify as male and meet one of the listed criteria are particularly encouraged to participate.

In addition, students who represent the following characteristics would also be welcomed:

  • SEND
  • First generation to attend university
  • Military Service children
