William Pinch


William Pinch was born in September 1890 in Lancaster, Lancashire, to Mary Ann Foxcroft, (aged 27) and Joseph Pinch (aged 27). They lived at 7 Springfield Street in Lancaster.

Early Life

William’s sister Bessie was born on August 10, 1894 in Lancaster, when William was three years old. In the 1911 Census, William (aged 20) was living with his family at 8 Aberdeen Road, in Lancaster. He was single at that this time and was employed as an Assistant Schoolmaster. His sister Bessie was an Assistant Fruiterer. William later married in Lancaster in January 1913 when he was 22 years old.

Chester College

William had attended Chester College and left in 1910.

Military Service

William served in the military in 1914 when he was 24 years old. He had enlisted with the Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment 1st/5th Battalion.

Lest We Forget

William was killed in action on July 31, 1917 in Belgium, when he was 26 years old. He was a 2nd Lieutenant.

Post Mortem

William is buried at Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, in Belgium. William was awarded all three War medals; the 1916 star for service in Europe and the British War and Victory Medals.
