Thornton Science Park

Thornton Science Park is home to the Faculty of Science and Engineering and is the study base for students studying Engineering, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science courses.

Our Thornton Science Park is based just outside of Chester, and is a major research and innovation hub. Formerly the site of the Shell Technology, Exploration and Research Centre, its takeover by the University has created the opportunity to apply the Centre’s legacy to the continuation of innovation and research in science and engineering in the North West.

For Engineering students there are purpose-built facilities donated to the University of Chester by Shell, used for problem-based learning. For Natural Sciences students there are purpose-built laboratories equipped to give you the best practical experience and learning opportunities, and you will also be working alongside active researchers and industrial partners. For Computer Science students there is access to a range of fully licensed design and development software, Windows and Mac computer suites, games area in the library to play computer games, software for 3D modelling, graphics programming, game engine programming, computational analysis and programming. Meanwhile, Mathematics students will be supported by the use of the most up-to-date computer facilities available.
