Research carried out at the University of Chester has been submitted to be assessed for quality and impact.
REF2021
The University of Chester is preparing to submit to the Research Excellence Framework exercise that will be conducted in 2021. The final date for submission is 27 November 2020.
Research England have confirmed that, following assessments conducted by both the REF2021 Equality and Diversity Panel (EDAP) and Research England, the institution's Code of Practice is considered to meet the published requirements set out in the REF 2021 COP Guidance (REF 2019/03).

REF 2014
The Research Excellence Framework exercise conducted in 2014 saw the University of Chester make steady progress overall with significant improvement across the 16 Units of Assessment – or categories – into which submissions were made.
The highest scoring Unit of Assessment was Art and Design, where the panel identified over 22 per cent of the research outputs as world leading.
All of the academic areas submitted have been judged to include internationally excellent (3*) research, with the following areas including world leading (4*) research: Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy; Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience; Mathematical Sciences; Geography and Environmental Studies and Archaeology; Business and Management Studies; Education; Sports and Exercise Sciences, Leisure and Tourism; Area Studies; English Language and Literature; History; Theology and Religious Studies; Art and Design – History, Practice and Theory; Music, Drama, Dance and Performing Arts.
