Research Interests
I have a pastoral and research interest in the mental and spiritual wellbeing of Clergy. I offer Pastoral Supervision to Clergy in the Methodist Church, and I collaborate with St Luke’s Healthcare for the Clergy in researching the effectiveness and limitations of Reflective Practice Groups for Clergy.I am Chair of the Church Service Committee in the Moravian Church, which oversees the selection and training of students for Ministry in the Moravian Church (British Province), and I am interested in understanding the impact of rejection by the Church on individuals whom the Church does not accept for ordained Ministry.
Latest / Proudest Achievement
I am proud to be the first serving Moravian Minister to be awarded a personal Chair (Professorship) by a British University, and to be the first Professor of Counselling and Spiritual Accompaniment in the UK. I have great pride in the achievements of my Doctoral and Masters students, and in the success of the PhD and DProf programmes in Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies, and Psychological Trauma.
I feel greatly blessed in my ministry, which includes offering Counselling, Pastoral Supervision and Spiritual Direction to others, being a serving Minister of a Church in Dukinfield and being able to pursue my academic interests at Chester. I have three doctorates (PhD, ThD & DMin) which I have worked hard for, and from whose experience I can draw in supervising my doctoral students’ research to their success. I am proud every time I publish something which others say has been helpful to them.
