How do I travel to Thornton Science Park?

The University provides a free bus between Parkgate Road Campus, Chester, and the Science Park.

Are there any additional costs on top of my fees?

There are no hidden costs on our engineering programmes.  The following are all covered by the Faculty:

  • All core textbooks for first and second year
  • Software: academic individual use licences provided
  • All PPE equipment provided by the Faculty: lab coats, safety glasses, ear defenders, steel toe cap boots etc
  • UK field trips and other educational visits
  • Photocopying/Printing costs: Annual allowance
  • Student membership of professional institutes

Is accommodation guaranteed for science and engineering students?

The University of Chester guarantees students who are studying a Science and Engineering course at Thornton Science Park a place in accommodation during their first year of study, provided certain criteria are met. Visit our accommodation pages for full details.

Are there placements available for engineering students?

Yes.  At the end of your 1st year you will be offered the opportunity to undertake a 4 week paid placement during the summer vacation (£300pw = £1,200).  This will be working full time on projects alongside staff/industrial contacts.

Are there any additional health and safety regulations for the Thornton site?

Yes, and you will be provided with information and the necessary PPE (including lab coats) upon enrolment.
