‘My Friend, the Queen’ and ‘Red Rose Bleeding’

I’m just beginning the fourth year of my studies in Creative Writing and have been upgraded to PhD registration status. I'm writing an historical novel, 'My Friend, the Queen', telling the story of Anne Boleyn from the viewpoint of her friend and companion, Kat Champernowne, who later became Governess to Elizabeth I.

My primary intention this year is to complete the novel, hopefully within the first six months, and alongside it develop a critical commentary, provisionally entitled ‘Red Rose Bleeding’, which will look at the developing role of women in the sixteenth century, with a possible focus on what I have called ‘Myth, Magic and Midwifery’, and will examine the way this feeds into the novel.
