Why Study History with us?

The MA in History is taught by a range of different historians, all of whom possess expertise in the latest historical theories and approaches. Our academics also have broad chronological and geographical interests, which help to make this both a stimulating and varied course.

You will be able to dip into the history of the Medieval and Early Modern periods or, if you so wish, explore more recent examples of the past. British, wider European and American history also feature prominently in the course, which confirms the Department’s belief in exploring the multiplicity and variety of history.

Parkgate Road Campus, Chester

Our historic Parkgate Road Campus in Chester has offered a wide range of courses since opening in 1839. It’s situated only a short walk from the lively city centre, and provides a friendly, secure and supportive environment in which to live and study.

Our on-campus facilities include a Learning Resource Centre, modern lecture theatres, open-access computer facilities, state-of-the-art science/skills/language laboratories, a range of catering outlets, the £2 million Chester Students’ Union centre and CSU bar/club, bookshop, chapel and faith space, cashpoint and launderette.

Because university life is not just about getting a degree, social and leisure activities are an important and long-established part of life at our Chester sites. On-campus sports facilities include a fully equipped sports hall, gym, swimming pool, squash and tennis courts, sprint track, floodlit 3G multi-use pitch and floodlit astroturf pitch.

Most of our student accommodation is also on or near campus. The campus also boasts an abundance of green space, and beautifully kept gardens, which provide you with an exciting environment in which to live and study.
