Course overview

Although our course will not train you as a therapeutic counsellor, it offers you the chance to gain highly developed skills to help others. On completion of the course you will have developed your confidence to work effectively within a team, and gained a vital range of human relationship skills, which will enable you to respond professionally to the complexities of concerns that occur within a workplace environment.

Studying a course full-time traditionally takes three years to complete.

Why Study Counselling Skills with us?

Chester has a long-established national reputation for the provision of professional counsellor training. As well as the degree in Counselling Skills, we offer a wide range of postgraduate professional counselling courses.

Although this course will not train you as a therapeutic counsellor, the course provides you with a chance to gain highly developed skills to help others. The general principles of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Ethical Framework (2015) help inform our Counselling Skills course.

Parkgate Road Campus, Chester

Our historic Parkgate Road Campus in Chester has offered a wide range of courses since opening in 1839. It’s situated only a short walk from the lively city centre, and provides a friendly, secure and supportive environment in which to live and study.

Our on-campus facilities include a Learning Resource Centre, modern lecture theatres, open-access computer facilities, state-of-the-art science/skills/language laboratories, a range of catering outlets, the £2 million Chester Students’ Union centre and CSU bar/club, bookshop, chapel and faith space, cashpoint and launderette.

Because university life is not just about getting a degree, social and leisure activities are an important and long-established part of life at our Chester sites. On-campus sports facilities include a fully equipped sports hall, gym, swimming pool, squash and tennis courts, sprint track, floodlit 3G multi-use pitch and floodlit astroturf pitch.

Most of our student accommodation is also on or near campus. The campus also boasts an abundance of green space, and beautifully kept gardens, which provide you with an exciting environment in which to live and study.
