Course overview

Sport development is about enabling individuals to start, stay and succeed in sport. Much of the sport development process is about promoting positive behaviour change (e.g. from inactivity to activity) and creating a supportive environment for this change to occur. Combining with either Business Management or Events Management therefore creates a unique opportunity for those looking to a career in the administration, organisation and delivery of quality sport experiences.

Why Study Sport Development with us?

The Sport Development course at Warrington Campus is based on robust academic underpinnings, but also has a strong vocational focus and looks to both embed and then refine the important transferable skills required by employers in a variety of sport-related industries. To underline this focus, the Sport Development strand has been endorsed by SkillsActive and the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

The sport industry increasingly requires management skills to effectively deliver the product. The Event Management or Business Management strands can provide the additional skills and knowledge necessary.

The campus has a range of specialist training, academic and leisure facilities across its 30-acre site. It is home to the North West Media Centre, the Warrington School of Management, dedicated police training facilities and practical nursing workspace.

With the Department of Sport and Community Engagement on site you can enjoy superb sports facilities for academic, recreational and competitive use such as an astro-turf pitch, fitness suite, running track and sports hall which hosts a variety of fitness classes. We’re also the training base for local Rugby League team Warrington Wolves.

Outside of the classroom, open-access computer labs and the £2.3million learning resource centre and library are available for all students.

On-site catering options include a Starbucks outlet, the Terrace Café Bar and our Garden Dining Rooms. After hours you can relax in the Students’ Union bar and club Twenty10.
