Formal teaching for these courses will be delivered at Parkgate Road in Chester from April 2021. The university will still own the Thornton site which will be used for research purposes. The close links that currently exist between the University and the companies based at Thornton will continue.

You will be based at Thornton Science Park, just outside Chester. At the University’s specialist science and engineering campus, students, academic researchers and on-site commercial enterprises work alongside each other and continue the legacy of innovation in the North West. The laboratories are equipped to a high level with research-quality instrumentation.

Careers / Employment

Each year we organise a specialised Mathematics careers event, including talks and one-to-one sessions with graduate employers from a range of sectors, Chester mathematics graduates, and expert careers advisers. On all the Department’s courses, work placements are available in your second year to ensure experience of applying your skills in real employment environments, and Physical Sciences students also conduct an extended project in the third year, which may be in collaboration with an industry partner, helping to build your experience and strengthen your CV.

See what students, graduates and staff from our Mathematics and Physical Sciences programmes have been doing. You can tag your photos with #MyChesterStory for the chance to be featured here, or upload them below. (Terms and Conditions apply)
