Why Study
There are opportunities for you to shape your degree according to your particular interests and strengths, and to work closely with experts in the field. Our staff are all passionate researchers who will bring subject expertise into the classroom throughout your course. You will have excellent learning opportunities which go beyond the lecture theatre and seminar room, whether that’s writing blogs, reviewing literary events, or visiting museums, literary festivals or the theatre.
Campus
English courses are available at our Parkgate Road Campus, Chester. In Chester, the Department of English is based in two beautiful Victorian buildings – The Old Vicarage and Rockmount. Students benefit from modern teaching facilities alongside social hubs and accommodation just a short walk from the centre of Chester.
Community
Beyond the classroom, our students run an English Society with a range of guests, outings and talks. There are ‘open mic’ evenings where anyone can perform or read – poetry, prose, the choice is yours. You can get involved with one of our publications such as our creative writing pamphlet Pandora’s Box, or our acclaimed Flash Fiction publication, or join us for our public lectures and events.
