Community, Education and Engagement

In order to achieve systemic change we must avoid isolation and instead engage in on-going community partnerships that foster innovation and place-based education.

There are many links between community, education, and engagement. Our students and staff have many positive impacts within the community through volunteering and charity events and we actively engage in community events such as the recent Storyhouse Climate event, which was a day of learning through presentations, workshops and climate-led conversations. As part of the sustainability strategy, we engage and support activities and groups within the community who are taking action to improve the local environment and build connections via the Chester Sustainability Forum.

We aim to embed sustainability within all decision making and service delivery. Achieving our targets requires each and every one of us, staff, students, and visitors to take action. We run a number of initiatives and campaigns to encourage behaviour change across the University, until sustainability becomes embedded in all that we do.

 

Community

As a large organisation the University can have influence the wider environment, particularly through how and what goods and services we purchase. We can also share best practice, expertise and combine knowledge and leadership for embedding sustainable practices through our external networks.

Education

The greatest impact we can have, to create a just and sustainable world for present and future generations, is through educating our students about the sustainability challenges and opportunities that face society.

Engagement
