Our MAs in Religious Studies and Theology offer flexible study both on campus and at a distance. Chester now has one of the largest number of taught postgraduates in Theology and Religion in the UK. Both MAs attract recent graduates and mature students, whether to pursue a passion in the subject, to pursue professional or ministerial development or to prepare for a research degree.

Your MA studies begin with core modules which ground you in the discipline at an advanced level, and develop key skills. You choose three optional modules to pursue your interests within the range of our expertise. The dissertation module allows you to develop further your skills, interests and specialism as an independent researcher.

School teachers may qualify for assistance with fees from the Culham St Gabriel’s Trust. Learn more about their Master Scholarship Programme. Applications for a scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year are expected to open in January 2022, with applicants notified as to whether they have been succesful by the end of July.

You can also take our MA modules on a free-standing basis.
