How to Apply

2018/19 Accommodation Applications – September Entry

If you’ve selected Chester as either your firm or insurance choice, you will be sent information regarding accommodation in the post in April 2018.

As soon as you receive the information in the post, you will be able to apply online via PASS, our Pre-Arrival Student Site, or the University App.

Please do not panic if you have not received the information by the end of March. Please remember, here at Chester we don’t allocate the accommodation on a ‘first come first served basis’, so as long as you submit your application before the June deadline your application will be considered fairly.

Whilst you wait for your application information to come through the post, you may wish to spend some time thinking about what is important to you in terms of accommodation and researching the various options available.

Key dates

Here are the key dates you need to know when applying for University-owned and partnership accommodation:

Tuesday 3rd April 2018 - Applications OPEN

Friday 22nd June 2018 - Applications CLOSE (deadlines may vary for different cohorts)

If we receive your application after the advised deadline for priority applications, we will endeavour to process your application, but applications received before the deadline will take priority.

What Happens Next

University Owned Accommodation

Following the application deadline, we will contact you to let you know the progress with your application. At this point, we should be able to confirm that a room has been reserved for you.

To secure this room, you’ll need to:
• agree to the contractual terms and conditions online within three working days
• make arrangements to pay the deposit of £250 - £300

Once your academic results are known and your place at the University has been confirmed, we will then advise you of the actual room you have been allocated. This will also be be same procedure for students holding unconditional places. For the majority of students, this will be around A-Level Results Day on 16th August 2018.

If you miss your application deadline or you have selected us as your Insurance choice, your application will not be given the same priority. Under these circumstances, we will be unable to confirm your room until those applications that have met the conditions of the application process have been administered. Likewise, applicants applying for accommodation through Clearing will only be allocated a room if there is availability at this point in time.

Partnership Referral Accommodation

For those students who are referred to our accommodation partners the process will be slightly different. Once the closing date for applications has passed your contact details will be sent directly to the accommodation provider. The accommodation provider will then contact you directly with an accommodation offer and send through the accommodation agreement for you to complete. It is important that your read and understand all the terms and conditions of the contract as they are different than the University owned properties. The accommodation partner will contact all referred applicants even if you are still waiting for results to be confirmed. If, in the unfortunate event that you do not achieve the required conditions to take up your place at the University, the accommodation provider will release you from your contract without financial obligation minus the original booking fee.  Please note you will not be released from your contract, should you remain a student of the University of Chester and choose to live elsewhere.

All referral accommodation is provided by private providers and therefore any accommodation contract is with them and not the University of Chester.

 Allocation Policy

Our aim at the University of Chester is to help all first year undergraduates find suitable accommodation either in University residences, our partnership accommodation or in the private sector.

Priority for University and partnership accommodation is given to all Firm choice applicants who live furthest afield, as well as applicants with specific needs. Although we can’t guarantee University or partnership accommodation to all our applicants, last year all applicants who wanted accommodation were offered a place in University or partnership accommodation.

We expect this to be the same this year.

  • University of Chester as first choice of study.
  • Geographical location of the students’ home base; places are allocated to those who live the furthest from the University.
  • Special needs or circumstances e.g. special medical conditions and care leavers.
  • Late Application – Students who apply late, gain entry through an insurance choice or via Clearing are less likely to be allocated a place in University accommodation.
  • Applicants for Science and Engineering courses based at Thornton Science Park are guaranteed accommodation. Further details on the conditions of this allocation can be found on the Thornton Science Park accommodation pages.

For more details on the allocation process, see our Allocation FAQ page.
