Course overview

Psychology is a fascinating subject for anyone curious to know why we behave the way we do. From the way we teach our children to the way we care for our elderly, from the way we sell products to the way in which we consume them, and from the way we develop as individuals to the way in which we come together in groups, psychology helps us form a deeper understanding, and sometimes surprises us!

Why Study Applied Psychology (Shrewsbury) with us?

Our applied psychology course focuses on ways in which psychological theory and research helps us understand, and indeed influences, the way in which we live our lives.

At its core, it is focused around the many different approaches psychologists use fully to understand behaviour. The emphasis on understanding the practical ways in which psychology can be put to work, its links with the local community and businesses, and the prominence it places on personal employability, are intended to give graduates from the course a particularly attractive portfolio to present to potential employers.

University Centre Shrewsbury

The University of Chester and Shropshire Council have established University Centre Shrewsbury to increase your Higher Education prospects and offer a student experience shaped to you.

Since welcoming our first cohort in 2015, we have strived to offer students a well-rounded and supportive university experience within the beautiful medieval town of Shrewsbury.

An impressive choice of facilities are available at our two principal sites; Guildhall and Rowley’s House. Their convenient location, just a short walk from the town centre, allows students to explore the picturesque streets alongside your studies.

The newly renovated Guildhall building is used as the main centre for teaching and learning. It provides fresh, modern, open spaces for students, in which you will find brand-new computer suites, lecture and seminar rooms, open-plan laboratories and a spacious library.

Outside of the classroom you can relax in the student common room, lounge, fitness suite, courtyard, and on-site café.

Shrewsbury

Sitting within a loop of the River Severn, Shrewsbury is a vibrant and cultural town, steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty. With cobbled streets filled with original and one-off independent restaurants and shops, and a broad range of pubs, clubs, wine bars and restaurants to enjoy at night, there’s lots to explore and enjoy as a student in Shrewsbury.

If it’s sports that you’re interested in, there is a good selection available: from outdoor adventures on the Shropshire Hills to daily cycles through the town centre. Shrewsbury is also home to a number of events and festivals throughout the year, such as: Shrewsbury Folk Festival, The Big Busk, Shrewsbury Food Festival and the Shrewsbury regatta; an annual rowing event.
