Course overview

This is a three-year banking and finance programme that will equip you with the skills and knowledge of finance and related aspects of accounting, and which will lead you to a career in the banking sector. The programme covers socio-ethical banking; the future of finance; crowd funding; rural and agri-financing; and SME banking. Our course will also offer you a unique opportunity to link your studies with local organisations during your Work Based Learning unit in Year 2 (Level 5). The programme academics teaching on this course are research active and apply their work to current accountancy and banking practices through informing government policy, providing consultancy services and supporting entrepreneurs. They share their ‘real-world’ experience with you to ensure that you are close to the issues and emerging trends that affect the business community.

Modules on this course have received accreditation from The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants(CIMA). This means that if successful, graduates will only need to pass one additional paper in order to be awarded CIMA’s Certificate in Business Accounting (subject to ongoing approval), a valuable qualification in its own right and a potential first step to becoming a Chartered Management Accountant.

Should you choose to continue in your qualifications in the bid to become a Chartered Management Accountant, you will be exempt from one of the papers required to do this.

Shrewsbury is also home to a number of events and festivals throughout the year, such as: Shrewsbury Folk Festival, The Big Busk, Shrewsbury Food Festival and the Shrewsbury regatta; an annual rowing event.
