Eligibility

Applications for sports scholarships may be made by existing and prospective undergraduate or postgraduate students of the University of Chester. In order to be eligible for an award, applicants must submit an application form which will normally be expected to demonstrate satisfaction of the following criteria:

  • Active representation at national/international level in the applicant’s sport. This includes national ranking in a particular sport or actively competing in national leagues/competitions.
  • Every Sports Scholar must be a student at the University of Chester and compete for the University in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) events.
  • Fulfilment of all academic requirements and satisfactory progress being made to the next level of their course by applicants who are existing students.
  • The unconditional/conditional offer of a place on a full time or part time course of study at the University of Chester to applicants who are prospective students.
  • Scholarships will only be confirmed after enrolment on a course and will be available for a maximum of 3 years as an undergraduate and 1 year as a postgraduate. However, selection onto the Scheme is not automatic year on year and all scholars must reapply each year.
  • Sports scholars will be expected to comply with the requirements of the Scheme and with any modifications the University may make to it throughout the period of the scholarship.

How to apply

Applications for the 2023/24 academic year have now closed. Applications for the 2024/25 academic year will open in August 2024. Applicants will need to complete our online application form and send in a 2-minute video of why they feel they should be awarded a sports scholarship. Final decisions will then be made by a cross-University selection panel at the end of September 2024 and applicants will be notified of the decisions.
