What’s happening?

The University’s Warrington teaching and learning provision will move from Padgate campus into the town centre. There are three buildings from which the University will operate:

  1. Remond House, Barbauld St, Warrington WA1 1EY - A dedicated site for the majority of our Warrington teaching provision. The building will include a student hub for the delivery of key student services, as well as social spaces for students between teaching sessions.
  2. Time Square, Warrington WA1 2LH - Our new town centre location will provide a prominent hub for the University in Warrington, offering small lecture spaces, study zones, as well as space to connect for students, businesses, schools, colleges and the local community.
  3. Tucker building, Padgate campus – Delivery of our Police apprenticeships will be delivered from the tucker building for the academic year 2022/23.

Why is this happening?

The move will allow us to increase our offer of higher education provision in a more central and accessible location. It also enables us to provide modern and fit for purpose space from which to teach and study.

When is this happening?

The two sites will be open from 2022 for staff, students, business and community groups to use for studying, meeting up and various events but all teaching of current programmes will continue at Padgate until the end of the academic year (summer 2022).

All Warrington based teaching provision from 2022 will be delivered from our new town centre sites apart from Police apprenticeships which will be delivered from the Tucker building at Padgate campus.

A programme of tours of the Time Square unit will be organised to take place in January for current students and staff. Tours of Remond House will be offered from 2022.

What accommodation will there be for students in the town centre?

We are talking to Warrington Borough Council as well as private landlords about accommodation provision in the town centre. We will be in a position to communicate to students in 2022 about the available options.

Will there be parking provision?

Part of the move to the town centre includes a robust travel plan. We actively encourage green travel and the reduction of car usage where possible. The benefit of a town centre presence means our sites will be much more accessible by public transport. There are two train stations in walking distance as well as Warrington’s main bus station.  For those staff and students that have to use a car, we are in discussions with Warrington Borough Council to agree a special rate for Time Square car park.

What sport activities will be available?

Our sports and physical activity offer will focus on partnerships and online delivery. We will work with local gym providers to ensure staff and students can access local facilities at competitive prices ensuring there is always the opportunity to be active.

In order to uphold our sporting offer we will build on our existing club links so we can offer students a pathway through to sports clubs in the local area, focusing on netball, football, futsal and rugby. These links are already established and we will endeavour to expand this offer to other sports and activities.

Our online delivery throughout the last year has grown hugely and we are proud of the vast array of challenges and fitness classes that we currently offer online. Working closely with British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) and Playwaze, we have been able to access their online platforms to expand our online offer.  In addition to this pop up events such as smoothie bikes, active campus and mindfulness offer students many opportunities to choose a healthy active lifestyle whilst studying.

We take inspiration from national programmes and initiatives aimed at keeping people active for example couch to 5K and colour runs. Further to this Sport England’s ‘Join The Movement’ Campaign drives us to come up with new and exciting ways to keep people active in and around their home and workplace. Watch out for our specific month campaigns. Sport and Active Lifestyle are proud to be able to offer so many diverse ways for students to remain healthy and active during their time at the University Centre Warrington

What will happen to Padgate campus?

No decisions have yet been made and we are working with local stakeholders, consultants and Sport England to ensure the best outcome for the site and the local community.

Will there be a celebration event for Padgate campus for staff, students and Alumni?

Yes, we are looking at dates and what events might look like. We will keep staff, students and Alumni updated as plans progress.
