Tell us about your placement:

I secured my placement through the choices that the University provided me with. I applied for this one out of them all and was successful. My main duties have been setting up new computers with a Window 10 image that I built. The most enjoyable aspect of this placement so far has been the full hands-on experience in doing different tasks, being trusted to complete tasks myself rather than just watching someone else do them, has made this experience a lot more fun. The most challenging aspect of this placement has been learning the new things that I didn’t already know, and even then, it isn’t too difficult as the people help me whenever I need it.

What skills have you developed whilst on placement?

My people skills have improved a lot as I have settled into this new working environment very well and quickly, as well as going out to different houses and working there. I have developed skills in areas of this job that I didn’t used to have, for example a lot of the focus here has been networking. I have developed skills in this area by learning hands on and completing these jobs myself.

How has your placement prepared you for your future career?

This placement has prepared me more as I now have an insight into how companies like these operate. Learning from a business point of view, rather than an educational one, has really helped me understand how I will be expected to use my knowledge in my future career.

What have you learnt about yourself during placement?

I have learnt that I am a quicker learner than I thought, and that I learn more easily when physically doing a task rather than just reading it.

What were your expectations before starting your placement?

I was very nervous before starting and I thought I would be very much out of my depth and alone but I was wrong. Everyone helps me understand anything I am struggling with and makes me feel like part of the team. My expectations on the type of work were accurate though as I previously did some research about this company.

What advice would you give to students embarking on Work Based Learning?

The Work Based Learning module is very helpful for a future career and I am very glad that I have done it. Learning from a business like this is so different to learning in class and it will definitely benefit me a huge amount when I am looking for a career later in life.

How would you sum up your placement experience?

My experience at Ten Ten Systems has been great, I have been immediately accepted into the work team and trusted in completing real life tasks for the company. I am very thankful and lucky that I got picked for this role.
