Salop Teaching Partnership
High quality teacher training delivered in partnership with the University of Chester and our Lead School The Priory in Shrewsbury.
About Salop Teaching Partnership
Salop Teaching Partnership is a Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin-based partnership of successful and outstanding schools. Our Lead School is The Priory in Shrewsbury.
Trainees studying with Salop Teaching Partnership experience high quality training based on the latest educational research and national developments, delivered by leading practitioners.
Our unique combination of secondary schools and sixth form colleges across both local authorities will ensure each trainee will experience teaching in a variety of contexts and Key Stages, thus making them fully prepared for starting their career in teaching.
Trainees will complete a minimum of 120 days of training spent in the classroom, observing, practising and refining their lesson planning and delivery skills.
The structure of our School Led programme enables trainees to be fully immersed in the practicalities of teaching and school life for the whole of their training. This ensures that our trainees leave our programme feeling fully prepared for their teaching career.
The Programme
- Placements in two schools to provide contrasting contexts and experiences.
- Centre-Based Training Days delivered by expert practitioners from Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin schools and local authorities
- Sixth Form experience.
- Primary School experience.
- ‘Wrap around’ support for Trainees provided by Salop Teaching Partnership team, and in school professional and subject mentors and in University by mentor and tutor support.
Eligibility Criteria
Degree
Applicants should hold, or be expected to gain, a minimum 2:1 honours degree, or hold a recognised equivalent qualification (2:2 may be accepted for some shortage subjects).
If your degree subject does not link closely to the subject you intend to teach, you may improve your ability to gain a place on an ITT programme by completing a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course (SKE). The necessity to undertake a SKE course would be determined at interview. SKEs are available in shortage subjects only.
A-level
A-levels, one of which in the subject you wish to teach, are desirable. If an applicant has an A-level in one of the shortage subjects - Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Design and Technology, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages, Maths, Physics - then they may be eligible for a subject knowledge enhancement course to allow them to access a PGCE in one of these areas.
GCSE
Grade C/4 (or equivalent, e.g. O-levels but not ALAN tests) or above in English and Maths. At least 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, (especially in the subject they wish to teach).

Bursaries are available for shortage subjects. Please contact us to check which subjects are eligible or look at the Funding and support page on the Get into Teaching website.
