In July 2019 I joined the University of Chester as Senior Lecturer in History Education with responsibility for the PGCE History course. Prior to this I spent three years working as a PGCE History tutor at Edge Hill University while studying for a PhD in Education. Having spent over ten years in secondary education, I have experience of teaching a range of subjects including history, politics and citizenship education in both English and Welsh schools.

I am a firm believer in the power of education and its capacity to transform young people’s lives. I am particularly interested in exploring ways of diversifying the curriculum and including marginalised voices within the teaching and learning of history education. I am also passionate about the creative arts and how they can be integrated into the history curriculum to provide learning experiences that are intellectually stimulating, culturally enriching, as well as developing the knowledge and skills needed for young people to become critical historical thinkers.

I am also a qualified football coach, primary school governor and one of the co-founders of the grassroots CPD movement, BrewEd, which brings together practitioners across all educational phases in informal settings to discuss educational philosophy, policy and practice. Beyond education my interests include cooking, reading, film, music, theatre, and spending time with my young family.
