Lynne Connolly
Senior University Teaching Fellow; Senior Lecturer Photography
My work explores the use of constructed imagery in relation to the experience of the individual in society and the boundary between private and public space and representation.
I utilise a broad range of photography both analogue and digital, which allows for a diverse approach to using photography as a complex and layered art form. Work is often output in book form using traditional hand made book-binding processes.
I teach on the B.A combined and single honours Photography degree across all levels, previously also Programme Leader for B.A Digital Photography programme. I have also taught at the University of Ulster, Manchester Metropolitan and F.E colleges in England and Ireland.
I worked for the Open University as a lecturer and also as an Educational Manager before returning to arts based teaching. I am particularly interested in supporting students to help make the relationship between theory and practice to explore ideas and use of concepts to examine space, identity and belonging.
I am currently undertaking PhD research on the absence of representation of identity in post peace process Northern Ireland. This research explores the personal rather than media political representation of lives lived through an era of conflict and the resolution of this through photographic construction.
