Annie McDonald

Annie joined the University of Chester in 2016 and is involved in the teaching and development of materials for both taught Pre-sessional English courses and English for Academic Purposes to In-sessional English groups. She also contributes to the work of the International Department, as an assessment team member, designing entry tests for applicants at various points in university admissions.

Annie began her career as a history teacher before retraining to teach English as a foreign language and then taught in Turkey and Brazil. She moved to Spain in 1992, where she worked in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) with the British Council, teaching trainee air traffic controllers and collaborating as a member of the Spanish test design in the development of language proficiency tests for air traffic controllers for EUROCONTROL. Annie also taught English for General and Specific Academic Purposes at Universidad San Pablo CEU, Madrid, from 1997 – 2003, before reverting to life in EFL as a materials writer and teacher trainer, both in Spain and England.

In addition to currently developing teaching and designing EAP materials and assessments, Annie is particularly interested in helping international students improve their lecture listening skills
