My research interests focus on three areas

Landscapes

My more recent research interests investigate the historical and contemporary human-environmental encounters with the mountains of Wales, drawing on archival and qualitative research methods.

Popular Culture and Geopolitics

I am interested in how popular understandings of geopolitics and national identity are reinforced and challenged through popular culture and the media.

Critical Military Studies

I study how cultures of militarism are expressed and encountered in everyday geographies. This has included research projects on the politics of memorialisation; military landscapes; military-themed videogames; and methodological approaches to studying the military.

I am also interested in using Virtual Reality (VR) technologies for teaching and understanding geographical and environmental issues.

Responsibilities

  • Experimenting with Digital and Immersive Technologies (EDIT) University Group Leader
  • Communities, Culture and Sustainability Research Group Co-ordinator
