Dr Jayne Price

I joined the Department of Social and Political Science in September 2018 and am a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for Criminology. I also hold Senior Fellowship of Advance HE (SFHEA). I have particular interest and expertise in young adults, youth justice, prisons and transitions.

Through practical experience and academic research, I have sound knowledge and holistic understanding of the youth justice agenda, the policy changes facing its development and the experiences of young people and adults within it. I have experience teaching across criminology and sociology modules within Liverpool Hope University, Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool.

I currently share the programme leader role for Criminology. I am the leader for level four modules Contemporary Youth Justice and Policing, Crime and Society.

In addition, I teach on the level six module Punishments and Penology and have also taught on the following modules: Crime Continuities and Change and Crime Prevention and Community Safety.

My principal research interests lie within the youth justice agenda and young adults experience of the Criminal Justice System. My PhD was a collaborative project with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. This research aimed to ‘explore pathways and transitions between juvenile and adult penal institutions’ and sought to establish the most effective and progressive ways of supporting young people through their transition. The research findings intend to contribute to the on-going collective reflexive learning of policy and practise. As an early career researcher, I have worked on a participatory research project exploring staff, children and young peoples’ perspectives of Youth Offending Services during Covid-19 which received internal funding. I have also led a project exploring widening participation and the involvement of those with criminal convictions accessing and participating in University life.
