Kimberly Anstey | University of Chester

Kimberly has been involved in all areas of the EAP team’s work since joining the university in 2021. This includes assessing English proficiency, delivering pre-sessional and in-sessional English courses, teacher training, and lecturing on the MA TESOL. She is the team leader for the in-sessional English provision for international students and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

She started her career teaching German in 1990 before moving into English language teaching shortly thereafter. Since then, she has worked in Japan, the US, Namibia, the UK, Bahrain, and Brunei. Her career has included teaching English in secondary schools as well as general English, exam preparation, and business English in language schools. She has also worked as an IELTS, Cambridge FCE/IGCSE ESL examiner and ICAO language assessor.

From 2010, she worked as director of studies at an educational charity and moved into materials and course design for English for Specific Purposes courses such as Aviation English and English for Court Interpreters. From 2016, she moved in to further/higher education, first at RAF Cosford, and then at The University of Wolverhampton on the International Foundation Year before joining the University of Chester. Her teacher training experience includes working as an ICELT course tutor, a Trinity Cert TESOL observer, and a regional DELTA tutor. She is a keen language learner herself and speaks German, Japanese, and some Spanish.
