Richard is Head of English for Academic Purposes and English for Speakers of other Languages.

Richard began his career as a history teacher but soon moved to English as a Foreign Language teaching. After many years of summer school, he became a Director of Studies and then Academic Director for companies involved in summer courses.

After his Master of Education in 2008, he joined the University as a part-time lecturer and has led the development of the English for Academic Purposes department. Other experience includes Business and Professional English, including at Skoda and Airbus.

Research interests focus on language and culture, especially concepts of Britishness.
