I served in the Cheshire Constabulary for 30 years from 1986 to 2016 rising through the ranks from Constable to Assistant Chief Constable. My main interest was in investigative work and I spent most of my career in the CID, including managing major and serious crime. I also had experience in uniform operations, especially firearms command.

I held the National lead for two elements of policing; intelligence management systems, and the disclosure of unused material. Both of these elements required significant research to underpin a meaningful practical approach to policing at the front end. During my service I undertook a BA in business and an MSc in organisational strategy, using that academic knowledge to help me navigate the most demanding and fulfilling career I could ever have wished for.

Since retirement I have become a regular volunteer at my local hospice and am the Chair of trustees there. That role is deeply important to me and helps me to retain a strong sense of perspective. Work wise, I run my own consultancy as a performance psychologist having undertaken another Masters degree in the psychology of sport and exercise.

In my spare time I am still a competitive sportsman, but only just, and have always been a sports nut! I also go to live music as often as I can. I have a busy and chaotic family life which ensures that I know what matters most in life; not me!
