Mohammed Amali | University of Chester

Dr Amali is a pharmacist and pharmacologist with an interest in drug hypersensitivity reactions and the development of drugs from natural products, with the aim of discovering novel molecules of therapeutic benefit. A senior lecturer in Pharmacology he also serves as the programme leader for the BSc pharmacology programme.

Dr Mohammed Amali obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) and MSc in Pharmacology from the University of Jos and OAU respectively both in Nigeria. He completed his PhD at the University of Liverpool in 2015, and his thesis focused on characterizing drug hypersensitivity reactions that occur due to administration of beta-lactam antibiotics in patients with cystic fibrosis.

Dr Amali has garnered extensive experience from within the healthcare and education sectors as a pharmacist and an academic. His teaching and research experience spans over fifteen (15) years from the College of Health Sciences to the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Ilorin.

His research interests include drug allergy but has focused more recently on the development of drugs from natural products, with the aim of discovering novel molecules of therapeutic benefit that will contribute to current patient management strategies. Dr Amali joined the University of Chester Medical School in December 2022 as a Senior Lecturer and a Programme leader for BSc Pharmacology.

My recent research interests include drug allergy with the aim of an expanded comprehension of the immune responses underlying these drug-specific reactions. Additionally, I have focused on the development of drugs from natural products, with the aim of discovering novel molecules of therapeutic benefit.
