Wendi Heathcock

Wendi is responsible for organising placement opportunities and supporting MSc Physician Associate students whilst on placement. She is a Senior Lecturer and has previously worked as a Radiotherapy Clinical Learning Facilitator at Clatterbridge Cancer Cancer. 

Wendi has worked in the NHS for nearly 30 years and her previous role was Radiotherapy Clinical Learning Facilitator at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC) – a post she held for 14 years. This role involved managing the Therapeutic Radiography students assigned to the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, providing pastoral support to the students, assessing students clinically and managing the placement of other visitors and elective students across the radiotherapy department.

Wendi is an experienced lecturer and has taught on University of Chester modules run at CCC and was also an honorary lecturer with the University of Liverpool.

Wendi’s particular area of interest is students’ expectations of clinical practice prior to going on placement and enhancing placement quality through mentorship. Wendi is passionate about promoting professionalism in practice, both in students and qualified staff.

Wendi feels that the introduction of the Physician Associate programme at the University of Chester is an exciting development. Well trained Physician Associates are assets to the NHS and work in both primary and secondary care. They provide vital services in the diagnosis and treatment of patients which ultimately improves patient care.

Wendi is responsible for organising placement opportunities and for supporting students whilst on placement. She is also Senior Lecturer in Professional Practice.

In her previous job, Wendi taught on the following modules:

University of Chester – Cancer Treatment and Supportive Interventions, Chemotherapy Administration and Care, Cancer Treatments and Care, and the short course Nature of Cancer.

University of Liverpool – Radiotherapy of the Head, Neck and Thorax, and Radiotherapy of the Abdomen, Breast and Pelvis.
